Environment specialist Shams Parvez, who has done a research study of climatic condition of Raipur and Bhilai, said, “one tree gap of 10 meters will make you feel a difference in temperature to at least two degrees lesser. In Raipur, distance between two trees is 150-200 meters. This leads to temperature variation. Had trees been planted at the specified distance, the temperature would have been lowered to 42 degrees Celsius.”
“They contribute up to eight degrees rise in temperature and result from pollution! Raipur and Bhilai suffer from 27-32% of industrial pollution, 45% vehicular pollution and 8% of civil construction pollution. Road pollution contributes maximum in temperature fluctuation.” TNN
