SpaceX unveils capsule to ferry astronauts to ISS
First Attempt by A Private US Firm To Send People To Space
Los Angeles: A sleek, white gum drop-shaped space capsule that aims to carry up to carry seven astronauts to the International Space Station and return to land anywhere on earth was unveiled on Thursday by SpaceX.
The dragonV2, short for version two, is the first attempt by a private company to restore Americans’ ability to send people to the orbiting space station in the wake of the space shuttle programme’s retirement. “It’s all around, I think, really a big
leap forward in technology. It really takes things to the next level,” said SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.

A backup government
Estonia is one of the world’s most wired countries. It’s also right next to Russia, a country with which it shares a long – and not always happy – history. After the removal of a Soviet-era
statue provoked both riots by Russian speaking citizens and cyber attacks from across the border, the country has become extra careful about its its digital infrastructure. And, now, it is considering moving its entire digital infrastructure to the cloud, with servers in its embassies outside the country. It’s the 21st century updating of the concept of governments-in-exile, writes Leo Mirani at Quartz, only that instead of the governments, it’s their data that’s moving out.

A new laser system, developed by researchers at the University of California can remotely sense objects across distances as long as 30ft, 10 times farther than what could be done with comparable current low - power laser systems.
The new system relies on LIDAR (light radar), a 3D imaging technology that uses light to provide feedback about the world around it. LIDAR systems emit laser light that hits an object, and then can tell how far away that object is by measuring changes in the light frequency that is reflected back.
Exposure to light while sleeping can make you fat
London: Women who are exposed to greater levels of light while sleeping are more likely to gain weight, a new study has claimed. Scientists at the Institute of Cancer Research, London, found body mass index, waist-hip ratio, waist height ratio and waist circumference, all increased with increasing exposure to light at night.
